Injured, Evacuations, Roads Cut… “Extremely Violent” Storms to be Feared in France, Already Damage this Monday
While violent storms are forecast this Monday 24th August 2026, a stormy episode last night has already caused a lot of damage in the Landes.

Eighteen southern departments will be placed on “storm” alert by Météo-france, from early afternoon, from the Pyrenees to the Massif Central and from the Dordogne to the Var.
“More than 150 interventions”
During the night from Sunday to Monday, the firefighters of this department, placed on yellow “storm” alert by Météo-France, carried out more than 150 interventions in a perimeter of around twenty municipalities, notably in Peyrehorade, in the south of Landes, regularly affected by floods and thunderstorms in the fall.

Around thirty residents of affected houses were welcomed in an accommodation center opened by the municipality, in Peyrehorade, indicates the prefecture.
Some 7,500 homes are without electricity and train traffic was interrupted between Dax and Hendaye on Monday morning.
Two people were slightly injured, according to a report from firefighters.
Several roads were cut on Monday, including the section of the A641 motorway, near Peyrehorade, closed in both directions.
Météo-France anticipates “virulent storms”, with wind gusts of up to 120 km/h, hail, “strong rainy intensities” and “intense electrical activity”.
According to Kéraunos, “the first storms should develop in the western part of the level 3 and 4/5 zones from mid-afternoon, with temporarily an increased supercell risk, likely to generate violent hail and some microbursts “.
At the end of the afternoon and evening, the risk of severe storms will reach Languedoc then the west of PACA. The risk of violent phenomena remains with the possibility of violent hail and a significant tornadic risk, particularly from the Aude valley to the Bouches-du-Rhône coast. The windy and diluvian potentials also remain.
