As the chill of autumn sets in, many households across France begin stocking up on firewood. But before placing your order, it’s worth understanding the different units of measurement—stere, rope, and cubic metre—so you know exactly what you’re paying for. Confusion between these units often leads to buyers thinking they’re getting more wood than they actually are.
A stere isn’t always equal to one cubic metre. For example, a stere of 1-metre logs fills about 1 m³, but if the logs are cut to 50 cm, that same stere only fills around 0.8 m³, and even less if the logs are shorter. Knowing these conversions is key to avoiding overpaying.
In our full guide, we explain how each unit compares, what size logs suit different types of fireplaces, current firewood prices across France, and how to choose quality wood for cleaner, more efficient burning. Read the full article here ➜
