Clemence Calvin beats French Record in French Marathon

She almost could not participate. French athlete Clemence Calvin broke the French record in the Paris Marathon on Sunday (April 14th).

Clemence Calvin , whose provisional suspension for evading doping control was lifted Friday by the Council of State, took the start of the Paris Marathon Sunday 14th April, 2019.

And she even did better than that, since the French athlete broke the French distance record , subject to homologation.

Timidly applauded on the Champs-Elysées with the other “elite” women athletes, the vice-champion of Europe of distance aimed at the Olympic minima for the Tokyo-2020 Games.

Authorized to run since Friday, when the Council of State has lifted its provisional suspension, Clemence Calvin finished 4th in 2 h 23 min 41 sec and erases the previous record (2h24: 22.) Christelle Daunay, established in 2010.

The Paris Marathon was won by the Ethiopian women Gelete Burka in 2h22: 48. and in men by Ethiopia’s Abrha Milaw in 2:07:05., Kenyan double-seeded Paul Lonyangata finished only 3rd.

The French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD) accuses Clemence Calvin of evading control on March 27 in Marrakech. She risks 4 years suspension and the cancellation of her results after this date.
