What to expect from Yellow Vests protests this weekend

Several events of Yellow Vests are scheduled this Saturday 6th April, 2019, including Paris, Rouen, Nantes, Bordeaux or Toulouse.

For their fifth consecutive month of mobilisation, Yellow Vests still plan several rallies in the country Saturday 6th April, 2019 during their act 21. This new mobilisation comes three days after the censorship of the key article of the anti-collision law which provided for bans to demonstrate.

Two events in Paris

In Paris, two events are planned – and declared in the prefecture: their two courses form a cross on the capital. One, relayed notably by Eric Drouet, one of the now famous figures of the movement, goes from the center east of Paris, place of the Republic, to the district of the Business of the Defense, all in the west, and wants to denounce “the art of tax optimisation”.

The other, at the call of Sophie Tissier, another personality of the “yellow vests”, from the south, the Montparnasse station, and must join the basin of La Villette, northeast.

Champs-Elysées prohibited

The prohibitions to protest on the Champs-Elysees, the Place de l’Etoile, as well as in a vast area including the Elysee and the National Assembly, were renewed by the police chief for the third week in a row, after the excesses of Saturday 16th March, which had seen 1500 “ultra violent”, according to the government, ransack the famous avenue and its surroundings.

In the rest of the capital, “the right to demonstrate, which is a fundamental freedom, can be exercised freely,” says the prefecture that does not exclude “erratic wanderings in Paris or departures in wild processions during or at ‘result of dispersion’.

It invites the participants “to follow imperatively the fixed route, to dissociate themselves from the groups of people being masked and preparing to commit, or committing violence and / or degradations”.

Meetings planned elsewhere in France

Elsewhere in France, other events are relayed on social networks, such as Rouen, Lyon, Dijon, Nice, Nantes, Montpellier, Bordeaux or Toulouse.

In Bort-les-Orgues in Corrèze, an event is planned to protest the privatisation of dams in the region.

Prohibition orders to demonstrate in the city centers of Auxerre and Bourg-en-Bresse were also taken.

In Saint-Nazaire finally, in Loire-Atlantique, 500 “yellow vests” from all over France, according to the organisers, are expected from Friday to Sunday for the second “Assembly of Assemblies”.

On the agenda: working groups and plenary sessions to discuss “internal and external communication”, the “face of repression” and the “demands”.

33,700 people for act 20

Thursday, the Constitutional Council has relied on Article 3 of the anti-collision law, the one that allowed to pronounce administrative prohibitions to protest against anyone presenting a “threat of special gravity for public order”.

If the Sages have found in accordance with the constitution searches of bags and vehicles in the vicinity of the processions and the creation of the offense of voluntary concealment of the face, these measures will not apply Saturday, lack of decree of application published in the Official Journal .

Last week, Act 20 had gathered 33,700 people, including 4,000 in Paris, according to the figures of the Ministry of the Interior regularly challenged by the “yellow vests” which for their part have claimed, according to the Facebook page of “Number yellow “, 105,084 demonstrators for 225 actions identified.
