Every year, it’s the same story. Once past Christmas, what to do with the Christmas tree? While some people are slowly yellowing it near the electric radiator before deciding to throw it away as summer approaches, others say that throwing it into the forest is a “natural” solution.
After the holiday season, used fir trees often decorate the undergrowth of forests . However, this practice is prohibited. This act is punishable by a fine of up to 150 euros , which applies for all types of vegetable waste.
“Contrary to popular belief, the accumulation of plant waste including fir trees can be harmful to forest soils,” says the National Forest Office on its site.
Invasive plant development
In fact, large needle thicknesses due to the addition of small deposits take a long time to decompose and locally asphyxiate the soil.
