SMARTPHONE: In an ever more competitive market, the global giant Netflix, is stepping up initiatives to maintain its leading position
Netflix is testing in Malaysia and other countries a half-price subscription offer for mobile use. The goal: “to assess consumer interest to bid only on mobile phones,” said the giant streaming to Reuters on Wednesday.
In Malaysia, this new package would cost 17 ringgits (3.60 euros) per month. Netflix has not yet released the prices or the list of other countries involved in this offer.
Increasing competition
CEO Reed Hastings insisted on this idea of pure testing. “We test a lot of new ideas at one point, and their duration and number may vary,” he told a news conference. “We may never have to deploy features or items included in a test. ”
The boss of Netflix also denied the rumor that the price of Netflix package could decline in the Indian market, very competitive. With its 137 million users, Netflix does everything to stand out from a competition increasingly strong. Disney will launch end of 2019 Disney + , its future streaming platform, with the clear ambition to take Netflix market shares.
