SNCF to offer internet on all of its trains

INTERNET ACCESS: SNCF has announced that all of their trains will have internet access by the end of 2016 at a cost of 450 million Euros

SNCF has announced that all of their trains will have internet access by the end of 2016 at a cost of 450 million Euros, which they will spend over the next three years to ensure that their nearly 10 million daily customers can have access to the internet from their phones or tablets, no matter where they are on the rail network.

Starting next month, they will start the first stage, which will be to identify where 3G and 4G mobile internet coverage needs to be improved. All of France’s mobile operators and the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP) will be involved in the process, so any additional antennas can be built as needed.

They have also announced a tender process to equip the high-speed TGV service with wifi internet access, with a decision set to be made in June.
