The Tour de France will start from Nice in 2020

The organizers of the Tour de France announced on Monday that the cycling race will start in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) in 2020, as in 1981.

The Tour de France 2020 will leave Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), announced Monday the organisers of the biggest cycling race in the world.

The next two Grand Départ of the Tour de France will take place next July in Vendée and 2019 in Brussels .

The announcement was made jointly in Nice by Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and Deputy President of the region, and by Tour Director Christian Prudhomme.

The kickoff will be given on Saturday, June 27, 2020, said Christian Prudhomme.

The Tour de France had already left Nice in 1981.

That year, the big city of the Côte d’Azur had hosted the first two days of racing, a prologue won by Bernard Hinault and two half-stages including a team time trial.

In Paris, Hinault, then world champion, had won the third of five victories that make him the co-holder of the record. With almost a quarter of an hour ahead of the second, the Belgian Lucien Van Impe.
