Air Pollution: Speed Lowered in Alsace, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle

The prefectures of Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle decided on Saturday to put in place on Sunday emergency measures, including a reduction in speed on the roads, to cope with an episode of pollution with PM10 fine particles

To cope with an episode of pollution, emergency measures were taken in Alsace, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle, Sunday, including the lowering of speed on roads

The prefectures of Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle decided on Saturday to put in place on Sundayemergency measures , including a reduction in speed on the roads , to cope with a pollution episode with PM10 fine particles.

“The persistence alert procedure is triggered for the day of Sunday, March 4, 2018 on the departments of Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle, Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin,” said in a statement ATMO Grand Est, association responsible for monitoring air quality.

The speed lowered by 20 km/h

“As a result, and with a view to limiting this pollution, the prefect of Bas-Rhin has decided to implement emergency measures by prefectural order of the day,” said the prefecture of this department in a statement.

Similar orders were also issued by the prefectures of Haut-Rhin, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle.

On the motorway network and the roads with separate carriageway of these departments, the maximum speed allowed for all vehicles will be lowered Sunday from 20 km/h without falling below 70 km/h.



In addition, open burning of green waste and agricultural residues is forbidden, as is the use of wood as a pleasure heater since it is not essential as a heating source.

These measures come into effect on Sunday at midnight in the Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle and at 6 am in the Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin and may be renewed depending on pollution forecasts.
