ECONOMY: The passenger traffic is ahead of at least five years on the forecast …

The year 2017 is not over yet, but already, the Nantes-Atlantique Airport has reached the symbolic threshold of 5 million passengers a year on Monday, announced the management. This is a new record for the Nantes airport that had transported a total of 4.7 million passengers in 2016 . It should be close to 5.6 million passengers by the 31st December 2017.

The increase in traffic compared to the previous year is spectacular: 14% this year, while it was 8% between 2016 and 2015. A growth largely driven by European flights, but nationally and internationally also increase , indicates the management of Nantes-Atlantique airport.

The dynamism of low-cost airlines (Volotea, Easyjet, Transavia …) continues. Three new companies have also opened regular lines in 2017 (British Airways, Lufthansa, Chalair).

Decision expected before Christmas

This traffic of 5 million passengers has been reached five years ahead of the most optimistic forecasts of the declaration of public utility (DUP) airport project Notre-Dame-des-Landes adopted in 2008.

The three ombudsmen since June to clarify each other and positions on this thorny new airport construction project must submit a report to the government by December 1. The government is committed to make a decision before Christmas 2017 .
