Landes: Thunderstorms, Tornado, Fire, Floods: a Man Struck by Lightning and Damage Due to Bad Weather

The bad weather observed in the Landes this Thursday 4th December leading to numerous interventions by firefighters following lightning strikes and even a tornado
The Landes firefighters are mobilized this Thursday 4th December 2025 for several major interventions linked to the bad weather which affected the department, placed on yellow rain and flood alert since the morning, 9am. At 8pm, numerous operations were underway or recently processed, according to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service.
First in Herm, where the Champiland company warehouse was hit by a lightning strike. A telephone server room was impacted. There is no technical unemployment. The intervention, however, mobilized 23 firefighters and ten vehicles.
A man struck by lightning
In Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, two homes were hit by a tornado. Fortunately the event caused no casualties, one person was relocated by the municipality. The operation mobilized eight firefighters and three vehicles. Again in Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, four firefighters intervened following a work accident: a man was struck by lightning. Slightly injured, he was treated and evacuated to hospital.
Still in the same town, a fire broke out in a nursing home, causing a strong burning smell with smoke which impacted three rooms and a traffic area. The intervention, still underway at 8pm, mobilized 33 firefighters. No casualties were reported.
In Saint-Yaguen, two houses were damaged by lightning. Damage to roofs and electrical installations was noted. Three people had to be relocated. Fourteen Landes firefighters intervened to contain the incident.
In Saint-Sever, a landslide caused the collapse of a wall, threatening five houses. Avenue du Général-de-Gaulle (Côte de Morlanne) was completely closed to traffic. No casualties were reported but around ten rehousings were necessary and provided by the families and the town hall. Eleven firefighters intervened. In addition, ten interventions for drying out premises or falling materials are also underway this Thursday evening in the department.
