Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2025 in F1: Rankings and Results After the Last Race (Manufacturers/Driver)

FORMULA 1: On Sunday, Lando Norris (McLaren) was crowned Formula 1 world champion, ahead of Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and his teammate Oscar Piastri

n Sunday, the eyes of Formula 1 fans were glued to the Yas Marina Circuit, where the top three in the standings could hope to be crowned world champions at the end of this 24th Grand Prix. On a track where the drivers are driving counterclockwise, the logic was respected.

Lando Norris (McLaren) was crowned world champion, at 26, finishing 3rd, behind Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Oscar Piastri (McLaren) on Sunday in Abu Dhabi. The four-time world champion lost despite an exceptional comeback at the end of the season.

Norris becomes the 35th world champion

The pole man had an ideal start aboard his Red Bull. Behind him, Oscar Piastri did not hesitate to quickly overtake his teammate Lando Norris on the first lap. The Briton, under pressure from Charles Leclerc, 4th, stopped on the 7th lap and left in 8th position. Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull), 3rd, tried to delay Lando Norris on the 22nd lap, without much success. The McLaren driver quickly overtook him, putting all four wheels off the track. After the race marshals’ investigation, it was the Japanese driver who was penalized 5 seconds for having ziz-zagged during his defense. The new world champion then managed his 3rd place.

Verstappen 2nd for… 2 small points

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), 4th, tried to get Lando Norris to attack him at the end of the race, but the Briton was too strong. He finished in tears at his finish line, on the radio with his team.

Verstappen may miss the virtual safety car Mexico and the non-penalty to Norris this Sunday. He still won this last Grand Prix, ahead of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. See you on the 6th March 2026 in Australia for a new season which looks promising, notably with Isack Hadjar at Red Bull.
