China: A Bridge Connecting Tibet Collapses Just Months after its Inauguration

TERRIFYING: Completed earlier this year, the Hongqi Bridge, which connects China to Tibet, partly collapsed on Tuesday after landslides
The images circulating on social networks are terrifying. Part of the Hongqi Bridge partially collapsed in southwest Sichuan province on Tuesday from China. According to local authorities, no injuries have been reported. Inaugurated only a few months ago, this bridge, 758 meters long, connects the heart of the country in Tibet.
It was closed to traffic on Monday afternoon by Maerkang city police after cracks appeared on nearby slopes and roads. On Tuesday afternoon, conditions deteriorated further on the mountainside, Reuters reported. Landslides then occurred, causing part of it to collapse from the bridge and the roadway. Started in 2023, construction of the bridge was completed earlier this year by Sichuan Road & Bridge Group.
