First day in the mountains on the route of the Tour de France, on the occasion of the fifth stage. The riders rallied Pau to Laruns, and it was the Australian Jai Hindley who won. A success acquired solo, after pulling out of the breakaway of the day. He is ahead of Giulio Ciccone and Felix Gall. He also took the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
A day marked by the first attack from Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), to which Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) could not respond. The Dane, winner of the Tour last year ahead of the Slovenian, pushed back his main opponent by almost a minute, and this from the first mountain stage.
