Bordeaux: A Young Man Dies by Drowning at Plaine des Bègles

On June 17th, 2019, a 19-year-old man drowned at Lake Plaine des Bègles (Gironde) near Bordeaux. Arrived at the scene, help could not revive the victim.

This Monday, June 17, 2019, around 19:30, firefighters were called to intervene at the Lake Plaine sports Bègles (Gironde) near Bordeaux, as reported by Sudouest .

Increasing drownings

A 19-year-old man lost his footing and drowned while swimming with friends. Despite the intervention of the relief workers, the victim could not be resuscitated.


The number of accidental drownings is rising sharply in France, as reported by a survey of the health agency Public Health France  which relies on figures dating from June 1 to September 30, 2018.


Bathing was not supervised

Outside the monitoring periods of Bègles-Plage (only weekends and Wednesdays until July 1st), swimming at the Plaine des Sports lake is prohibited.
