Twenty-one departments were placed on orange vigil Sunday until Tuesday due to thunderstorms, said Meteo France.

The situation “highly stormy” in these departments “requires particular vigilance in that there is a strong risk of violent phenomena,” said Meteo France in its bulletin.

Meteo France warns of the risk of “intense rain”, giving locally 30 mm in less than one hour and 40 to 60 mm in 3 hours, “strong local hail” and gusts of wind up to “80 at 100 km/ h “or even locally more.

After a very hot Sunday, with maximum temperatures often reaching 32 to 34 degrees in the interior, the storms will approach the Basque Country late afternoon on Sunday. They will progress in the evening and the next night to the North and the Northeast, reaching in the middle of the night the departments of Poitou and Charentes before evacuating at the end of the night towards the Pays de la Loire.
