A freight train and a truck crashed on Monday 9th July in Sablé-sur-Sarthe, on an unprotected crossing.
Spectacular accident at Sablé-sur-Sarthe this Monday 9th July, 2018 . Around 11am, a 38-tonne lorry hit a freight train at Les Bosses in Sablé. The crossing, which is between Bouessay and Souvigné-sur-Sarthe , is known to be unprotected.
The lorry, who was travelling at low speed, just like the train, was thrown at the nearby house. Neither the truck driver nor the train driver were injured.
The damage is significant. On site are about thirty firefighters including the chemical cell to fight against pollution and the chemical risk intervention vehicle.
“The first problem was to stop the escape of diesel on the engine, which escaped on the balast, “explains Captain Dumond, boss of the company of gendarmerie La Flèche.”
300 litres of fuel spilled. Firefighters managed to pump the remaining 3,500 liters.
Another concern: the house hit by the truck.
“We have uncertainties about the strength of the structure of the house, “says Captain Charlotte Leroy, commander of the operation on site.”
To evaluate it are engaged on the scene of firefighters specialized in rescues and clearing.
The owner, absent at the time of the shock, was warned by the gendarmes. On the spot, he can only see the damage. “I have lived here for 20 years but I retapais my house”.
The house will be supported, a crane should then be sent on site to evacuate the truck and locomotive.
