Puy-de-Dome: An Old Abandoned Zoo is Soon to be Returned to Pasture

The old zoo is located at the foot of Puy-de-Dôme.

Abandoned for fifteen years, the former zoo Orcines, at the foot of Puy-de-Dome, should definitely disappear. The county council, which is now the owner of the site, wants to restore the two hectares.

“I have the image of a zoo that was well maintained, where the animals were well treated. It was well attended in July and August, “ says Michel Faure, former mayor of Orcines ( Puy-de-Dome ). However, the former zoo of the town could soon turn into pasture, says  France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes  this Wednesday, May 16.

To return the flocks

Asked by the channel, Marie Inocencio, project manager for the management of major heritage sites at the departmental council of Puy-de-Dôme, aims to host a rich fauna and flora. “We are in contact with naturalists, to tell us if there are precautions to take in relation to the work,” says the specialist.



The project is supported by the Orcines Town Hall. This pasture would indeed clear and clean this area located near the Puy-de-Dôme, a major tourist attraction that attracts more than 550,000 visitors each year.
