Briton Anthony Joshua defended his world belts IBF and WBA heavyweight, setting Saturday in Cardiff Carlos Takam, beaten by the referee’s stop in the 10th round, in front of 70,000 spectators won the cause of the world champion.
Franco-Cameronian Takam, who replaced the Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev at the moment, Joshua’s official challenger but lost out on injury two weeks into the fight, became the only fourth boxer to resist the British colossus (1.98m) over three rounds, but never seemed able to endanger Joshua despite some heroism.
Joshua now has 20 victories for no losses, all his successes having been won before the limit, the last of which, in April, removed after an epic fight eleven times against the Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko, former king of the category.
