The Monaco driver Charles Leclerc, driver in the Formula 2 category could be moving up to Formula 1.  The driver of the Ferrari academy, leader of the Formula 2 championship, will be driving a Formula 1 in several practice sessions with Sauber. The prospect of Charles Leclerc driving for Formula 1 in 2018 is growing.

The Swiss team Sauber announced Thursday that the Monaco driver Charles Leclerc will participate in free practice for the next four Formula 1 Grand Prix.  “Charles Leclerc, current leader of the Formula 2 championship, will participate in the first free practice sessions during the week in Malaysia, the US, Mexico and Brazil, “ the statement said.


The 19 year old driver from Monaco, derived from the Ferrari sector, is strongly tipped to take one of two seats at Sauber in 2018, probably in place of the German Pascal Wehrlein.


The team, led by the French Frédéric Vasseur, has reached an agreement with Ferrari to be provided with its new generation engine in the 2018 season, the Scuderia wants to place at Sauber at least one of its young drivers, either from Charles Leclerc or Italian Antonio Giovinaz.
