Terrible tragedy early Friday in Médillac in southern Charente, in a place called La petite Gayauderie
A man was found dead and burnt in the fire which completely destroyed the family home. His wife of 31 years, was slightly burned, and her baby of 6weeks were evacuated and taken to the hospital at Girac. The other three children of the couple, aged 19 months, 5 years and 10 years, were with family.
It was a little before 2am when firefighters were alerted. Twenty men from Chalais barracks, La Roche-Chalais, Blanzac, Saint-Aigulin, Angoulême Barbezieux went there. They managed to put out the fire but it was too late. Inside the house, they found the charred body of a man.
According to our preliminary information, a domestic dispute was behind the tragedy. The wife reportedly announced to her husband that she was leaving. He took a can gasoline and doused the house before setting it on fire. The woman had time to go out with her 4 children.
