On the night of Friday to Saturday, around midnight, a fire broke out in migrant/refugee camp known as “the jungle” of Calais destroying 2,500 m2 of tents and sheds. The sub-prefect of Calais, Denis Gaudin, immediately announced that the origin of the fire was “clearly accidental,”reports La Voix du Nord.

Rumors on social networks
“Rumors are circulating on social networks indicating that it is linked to arson attacks in Paris and which could have been caused by far-right activists. It has nothing to do with that, there are enough problems in this country, “said the sub-prefect to the regional daily.
The disaster could be due to “a candle or a stove.” A tent caught fire and the fire was fanned by the wind. The fire was eventually under control at 3am, and no injuries had been reported in the early morning.
