Customs agents in Port-Vendres (Pyrénées-Orientales) seized more than 1.9 million euros, hidden in the trunk of a vehicle. The driver was jailed.
More than 1.9 million (1,918,460) euros was found on Saturday inside a car on the junction at the toll Perthus (Pyrénées-Orientales) on the A9 motorway.
The driver was taken into custody
According to Customs, the vehicle driver, an entrepreneur of 31 years old from Spain who returned to Hungary, where he resides, was indicted for “failure to declare”, “Customs laundering”and “General laundering by an organized gang” and imprisoned.
During an inspection, the officers of the brigade in Port-Vendres have recovered the booty, hidden behind the lining for access to rear lights as well as the location of the spare wheel.
The National Judicial Customs Service opened an investigation
The money (notes distributed in 68 of 500 euros, 230 of 200 euros notes, 697 of 100 euros, 29,732 of 50 euros notes, 14,058 of 20 euro notes and 100 of 10 euros.) was taken into bundles in a clear plastic bag and travel bags. The investigation was entrusted to the National Judicial Customs Service (SNDJ) and Perpignan SRPJ by the prosecutor of Perpignan.
