A series of events, including a parade in the city centre, is scheduled from 3rd to 7th June to celebrate Nantes being Velo-city …
After Vienna (Austria) in 2013 and Adelaide (Australia) in 2014, Nantes will, this year, in 2015, be called Velo city, and will host a global conference dedicated to cycling. The conference will take place from the 2nd to 5th June at the City of Congress, in the centre of Nantes, where more than a thousand delegates from fifty countries are expected.
And to celebrate this special event with all the people in Nantes, the city plans a series of events throughout the city. The most spectacular event, will undoubtedly be the bike parade to be held on Wednesday, June 3rd, from 5.30pm, in and around the city centre and l’île de Nantes.
12km of paths and surprises
The idea is a popular gathering on an easy route along 12 km. It will be a very creative parade to celebrate the life and progress of the bike. “It will be a good show”, promises the organisation, voyage á Nantes. The route will be decorated with surprises: floor painted, giant mist, tunnel underpass redecorated and a “brigade of assistants” will assist on segways. …
Objective 5000 participants
In Adelaide, there were 5000 participants, we hope to do at least as well, commented the organisers. The bike parade will end with a festive evening at the parc des Chantiers. For motorists, however, the day of June 3rd will also be marked by numerous closures of streets and bridges, so it will be better to anticipate the event and reorganise your route, or better still ditch the car and participate in the event.
Velo City – festival of cycling
Apart from Wednesday, animations, exhibitions, workshops and exchanges are planned for five days on the Velo City, the small village dedicated to cycling in the centre. The traditional festival of cycling organized by the Association Place au vélo, will overflow in the weekend on Sunday, June 7th. The course will offer cyclists a loop along the banks of the Loire between l’île de Nantes and La Chapelle-Basse-Mer.
