The annual survey on the ecology in France by La Vie, awarded the prize to the Gironde for the year 2015 …

Regularly on the podium in recent years, the department of Gironde has been awarded for the first time, greenest region in France, according to a ranking in the magazine La Vie, in partnership with France Blue and France 3 Regions.

Gironde finished ahead of Hérault and the Cotes d’Armor.  The Pyrenees-Atlantiques rank fourteenth, 17th was the Dordogne, the Lot-et-Garonne, 38th and Landes finished in 52nd place.

To establish this list, La Vie, based the ranks on eight factors.  That of sustainable consumption, Gironde comes first, second, on energy transition and fourth on the water quality.  The scores are slightly worse on Agenda 21 (7th), waste management (17th), organic farming (30th), the protection of biodiversity (34th), and air quality (53rd ).  But ultimately, this allows the department to win the first place.
