Réveillon of Saint Sylvestre

Tonight is the New Year celebrations, which is normally called The Réveillon of Saint Sylvestre, which as in most places in the world is a very important evening. You will normally find that most villages and towns have some quite impressive celebrations planned, with tickets costing in the region of 50 – 75 Euros per head and sold many months in advance.

The evening will normally comprise of live entertainment and a large meal, of many courses, served with champagne throughout the evening. At midnight, after the countdown, a large cheer breaks out, with everyone shouting ‘Bonne Année’.

Everybody then exchanges kisses and shakes hands and wishes each other ‘Bonne Année’, a Happy New Year and ‘Bonne Santé’, Good Health.

The parties and festivities normally continue well into the early hours.
