Bad weather: Gard Placed on Orange Alert for Rain and Flooding from this Friday Evening

WEATHER ALERT: Météo-France placed Gard on orange rain-flood alert this Friday from 8 p.m., due to a rainy Mediterranean episode

Be careful. Météo-france has placed the Gard in orange alert for heavy rain and flooding this Friday from 8 pm. The cause is a lasting Mediterranean rainy episode, with showers which will significantly increase in the evening and during the night. Poorly moving rain lines could cause rapid accumulations of 30 to 50 mm, then reach 100 to 150 mm by the end of the night, locally more.

The Cévennes and their foothills are concerned, but the main risk concerns overflows in the plains, the soils already being saturated in the west of the department.

Several rivers are also placed on yellow alert for a flood phenomenon. Friday afternoon, the Gard departmental council carried out the preventive closure of several submersible bridges and fords.

Limit your travel

In the middle of departures for the end-of-year holidays, “the prefect of Gard calls for the greatest vigilance and responsibility of everyone”, asks the population to limit travel, never to enter a submerged route or partially submerged or on a submersible bridge or ford if it is closed or begins to be submerged.

The phenomenon could last until Monday. According to Météo-France, the north of the Hérault department, on the edge of the Gard, can also be affected by intense rains, but, a priori, with a less marked intensity and surface area concerned.
