The husband and artistic agent of the popular singer Céline Dion, René Angélil, died Thursday at the age of 73.
The information was confirmed by the official Facebook page of the singer from Canada: “It is with great sadness that we announce that Rene Angelil, 73, died this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer.

Born in Montreal in January 1942 in a Syrian-Lebanese family, Rene Angelil had himself started as a singer in yéyé group, the Baronets.
Without success, he quickly turned to the agent business and this is by chance that he discovered Celine Dion, then pre-teen 12 years. “A miracle happened, Rene Angelil had to admit later. When I heard that voice, I had never heard anything like it. For me it is the most beautiful voice in the world. ”
In 1988 brought the French singing star, Celine Dion success in Eurovision contest singing for Switzerland (with “Ne partez pas sans moi”).
He then pushed the budding star to actively take English courses to make her music appeal to a worldwide audience and to especially target an American career.
Efforts have largely paid off, with star having success with both French and English Albums. In 1996 she was voted “Best Francophone artist”. Celine Dion, under the able leadership of René Angélil, advantageously coined her talents by repeatedly gaining contracts to perform on a permanent show based in Las Vegas, and she is expected to launch two new albums, one in French and one in English, later this year.
Rene Angelil, 26 years her senior, married Celine Dion in December 1994. René Angélil was the father of six children, three of whom he had with Celine Dion; Rene-Charles, Eddy and Nelson.
