Skoda Revisits its Past Again

AUTO: In this 130th anniversary year, Skoda continues to revisit its history. After the concept evoking a coupe, here is a 3D model
In the 1960s, the Cold War was in full swing. No product passed the Iron Curtain, and this is the reason why the Skoda 1000 MB, or its MBX coupe version, is known only to a few automotive scholars. Produced in just over 2,500 copies, this version is no less part of the brand’s long history. In this year of celebration, it is therefore logical that Skoda brings it back to life through a concept digital.

Created by in-house designers Antti Mikael Savio and David Stingl, the project took just a few weeks, from a scribbled sketch to a model 3D complete. The idea? Pay homage to a forgotten symbol, without falling into first-degree nostalgia.
Elegance of the past, assumed modernity
The front panel features the curved volumes and the light signature evoking the period chrome grille. The lights appear to burst from the hood, while a thin central ridge extends the roofline to a rear camera perched like a fin. Sporty, certainly, but never aggressive: “The cars of the 60s had a form of elegance that we wanted to preserve”, confides Savio. On board, the concept exploits the freedom offered by the electric platform: transparent dashboard, one-piece front bench seat and two small folding rear seats to create a flat floor capable of accommodating a bicycle or sports equipment.

The 1000 MBX Concept also hides an adjustable air suspension system, capable of lowering the body on the road or raising it on uneven terrain. Of course, no technical data has been put forward, this prototype remaining a stylistic exercise intended to celebrate Skoda’s creativity. An exercise in style, and an elegant way to Skoda remember that its history is not limited to its models known in the West.
