Travellers from the United Kingdom to the European Union could again buy alcohol and tobacco without paying taxes in the country in a No Deal Brexit
In the scenario of a No deal Brexit, people who will travel from the United Kingdom to the countries of the European Union will benefit from duty free, which would make its return, announced Tuesday10th September 2019 by the British Treasury.
“Passengers to the EU will be able to buy beer, spirits, wine and tobacco without paying taxes that apply in the UK,” according to a statement from the UK Finance Ministry.
This decision, announced Tuesday by the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Minister of Finance) Sajid Javid, means for example that a bottle of wine purchased at the London Heathrow Airport duty free by a passenger to the EU could be up to 2.23 pounds (2.5 EUR) cheaper, says the Treasury.

Missing in 1999
And by leaving the EU, travellers will continue to buy and return unlimited alcohol and cigarettes to the United Kingdom as long as they have paid taxes, the statement said.
The same will now also have the option to buy limited quantities of alcohol and duty-free cigarettes so that holidaymakers can, for example, save up to 12 pounds (13.4 EUR) if they buy two crates beer, says the Treasury.
In his statement, Sajid Javid said he was “delighted to be able to support British travellers as we prepare to leave the EU”.
Decided in 1991, the disappearance of duty free within the European Union came into force in 1999.
