The young French-Irish teenager, Nora Quoirin had disappeared in the night of August 3 to 4, 2019, from a resort south of Kuala Lumpur. The search has mobilized hundreds of people.
The alleged body of Nora Quoirin, young Franco-Irish missing in Malaysia, was discovered Tuesday 13th August 2019, bare, deep in a ravine in the jungle, after ten days of intense research that mobilized hundreds of people.
“The family has confirmed that it is the body of Nora Quoirin,” Mohamad Mat Yusop, head of the Negeri Sembilan State Police Department, told AFP.
A helicopter transported the body to a hospital where the parents of the 15-year-old girl could identify him.
Missing from a hotel
Nora Quoirin, suffering from a mild mental handicap, disappeared during the night of August 3rd – 4th, when she had just arrived with her family living in London for a holiday at the Dusun Resort. It is about 70 km south of Kuala Lumpur, on the edge of the jungle near Seremban, the state capital of Negeri Sembilan. A window had been found open in the pavilion where the family resided.
The corpse was found in a small stream at the bottom of a ravine about 2.5 km from the resort, said Mazlan Mansor.
Abduction?
The body was bare, said the police chief, without saying whether it bore traces of injuries.
He said that the police continued to treat the case as a case of disappearance, while the girl’s relatives have raised the issue of abduction in recent days.
A group of volunteers involved in the research discovered the body after information from an inhabitant to the authorities, he added.
After the information on the discovery of a body, police vehicles were seen heading towards an area planted with oil palms and fruit trees, not far from the hotel complex. A security perimeter has been installed around this area.
More than 350 people were mobilized to participate in research in the nearby jungle of Dusun Resort, supported by helicopters, drones, dogs and divers. The voice of the girl’s mother was broadcast by megaphone and shamans practised rituals Monday to try to locate the teenager.
“Vulnerable”
The family had Monday offered a reward of 50,000 ringgit ($ 11,900), funded by a company in Belfast, for any information. The Irish mother, Meabh, and the French father, Sébastien, of the teenager, also praised the efforts of the search teams.
“Nora is our first child. She is vulnerable since the day of her birth, “said the family in a statement. “She is so dear to us, and our hearts are broken. We are calling on anyone who has information about Nora to help us find it, “they added.
According to her family, Nora was “absolutely not” used to running away.
She has holoprosencephaly, which means she has a smaller brain than normal, limited verbal expression, and is only able to write a few words.
She was educated in a structure for children with learning and communication difficulties.
Police examined fingerprints on the window left open as well as testimonies of villagers who allegedly heard a truck early in the morning of the girl’s disappearance. Police in Britain, Ireland and France supported the search.
