ACCIDENT: An SNSM lifeboat capsized at 800m off Les Sables-d’Olonne, killing three sailors during storm Miguel
While the storm Miguel sweeps the West of France with strong gusts of wind, a fatal accident occurred this Friday morning on the Vendée coasts. According to the prefecture, a shuttle of the association of sea rescuers SNSM capsized at 800m off Les Sables d’Olonne. Seven sailors were on board, three of them were killed. An “important maritime and aerial device is engaged, in very difficult weather conditions”.
The prefecture has launched the Novi plan, an emergency plan intended to rescue a large number of victims. According to France Bleu Loire Océan , the boat left the port around 11 am “to go to assist a fishing boat in difficulty approaching the channel and who activated his distress beacons”. Gusts of wind over 100 km/h have been recorded since this morning in Vendée.
