Aix-en-Provence, Avignon and Toulon … The drivers of the Uber platform arrive in three new cities this Monday, September 17th.
Uber drivers arrive in Aix-en-Provence, Avignon and Toulon on Monday, according to Steve Salom, Uber’s managing director in France, Switzerland and Austria, interviewed in the Journal du Dimanche (JDD) . The car-driver booking platform (VTC) brings the number of French cities where its drivers operate to 15, after testing in July and August.
“Six hundred drivers completed their activity with us this summer in these three cities and we recorded 40,000 shopping requests , “ says Steve Salom at the JDD , before adding: “And by the end of the year we will open another French metropolis. “
The relations between the drivers of VTC and those of traditional taxis have been peppered with incidents in recent years, especially in Marseille.
28000 drivers
In 2016 a court dismissed the National Union of taxis and the Union of taxis Marseille and Provence who had constituted civil party against two Uber drivers they accused of illegal practice of taxi operator activity.
Uber has also been regularly criticised on the social front in 2017, its employees denouncing the precariousness of their status as self-employed, with degraded working conditions or the risk of accidents. To answer this, the company had set up social protection for its drivers in France in October 2017, before extending it to couriers in January.
The owner of Uber France complains about the length of the procedures and mandatory exams imposed on drivers: “Becoming a driver of VTC, it is a course of the fighter in France. It takes 6 to 12 months. It’s longer than anywhere else in Europe. In Switzerland, for example, it rarely exceeds 2 months, “he says at the JDD .
According to the weekly, 28,000 drivers work via the Uber platform in France.
