Peaky Blinders Returning for Two More Seasons as Cillian Murphy’s Future Confirmed

Peaky Blinders Returning for Two More Seasons as Cillian Murphy’s Future Confirmed

Peaky Blinders is officially coming back to the BBC for two more seasons.

Good news for fans of the series Peaky Blinders , as the BBC has confirmed two more seasons.  The writer and creator Steven Knight is set to return to tell the story of a new generation of Shelbys, filmed and set in Birmingham.

However, conspicuously absent from the official BBC announcement is character Tommy Shelby played by actor Cillian Murphy, which seems to indicate the Oscar-winner will not be back to reprise his role in the series.

Cillian Murphy will return in some capacity however, behind the camera, because he’s listed as one of the upcoming show’s executive producers.

Set in Britain in 1953, the official synopsis for the ‘new era’ of the series reads: ‘After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel.

‘The race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions.

‘This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

In the official announcement, the show creator Knight said: ‘I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story.

Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes after the war and the Birmingham blitz.

‘The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

The Peaky Blinders announcement comes off the back of Knight’s Netflix hit with House of Guinness, which tells the Succession-style story of the family that built the Guinness beer empire.

The two six-part seasons will air on BBC One in the UK and will be released on Netflix globally.

What do we know about the Peaky Blinders film?

While Murphy might not be returning for the TV show, we do know he’s set to reprise his role as Tommy in the upcoming Netflix film.

The Irish actor starred in the BBC series from 2013 until 2022 and will be back for the ‘explosive’ Netflix movie.
