Alps. Large Quantities of Snow are Falling in these Communities, Roads Closed

Significant amounts of snow began to fall in the French and Italian Alps on Monday. Several passes are closed to traffic in Savoie.
Winter is coming. While the autumn weather dominates in the Rhône, in the Alps, a winter landscape took hold this Monday 20th October 2025. Of the snow in large quantities fell at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters in Savoie but also on the Italian side.
Several municipalities are under a thick layer of snow while the department of Savoie announced at the end of the day the closure of passes due to bad weather conditions and new snowfall forecast. It snowed heavily in the Alps in the high mountains (notably in Valloire at an altitude of 2,550 meters), reports Météo Express. In Savoie, the Col du Galibier was closed to traffic.

The Mont-Cenis pass (in Italian colle del Moncenisio), which connects the Maurienne valley, in France, and the Susa valley, in Italy was also affected by heavy snowfall this Monday.
Passes closed to traffic
Due to weather conditions, the Department of Savoie announced the closure of the Galibier pass and tunnel from Monday 20th October at 9am until Wednesday 22nd October in the morning.
The Col de l’Iseran has also been closed since Monday at 9am, for an indefinite period.
