This prefectural order follows the mobilisation day last Saturday, where the act 18 “yellow vests” gave rise to clashes with police and looting shops on the famous avenue of the capital.
No traffic at 6am
“There are serious reasons to believe that this violence and degradations are likely to recur at the rallies announced” this Saturday, said this decree signed by the new Paris police chief Didier Lallement, inducted Thursday.
The rallies of “yellow vests” will therefore be banned “Avenue des Champs-Elysees on portions of 100 meters in the transverse streets that lead to it, and on the Etoile plateau and within a perimeter including the presidency of the Republic and the National Assembly, “said the Prefecture of Police in a statement.
The circulation of vehicles will be prohibited in the area of the Elysée from 6am Saturday morning.
“Anyone violating these provisions will be the subject of a verbalization for participation in a prohibited demonstration, as a contravention,” warned the PP. The contraventions incurred in the event of participation in a prohibited event were brought Thursday from 38 to 135 euros.
The decree also provides for the “prohibition of the carrying and transporting of weapons” including dummies, “ammunition” and “any objects that may constitute a weapon”.
Objects “intended to conceal all or part of the face so as not to be identified” and “protective equipment designed to defeat all or part of the means used by law enforcement officials to maintain public order Are also prohibited.
A declared event?
Also prohibited in the sector are “fireworks” and “pyrotechnic articles”, as well as the transport of “dangerous substances”.
Outside these perimeters, “the right to demonstrate, which is a fundamental freedom, can be exercised freely,” says the PP but “any crowd giving rise to excesses will be immediately dispersed”.
