New Snowfall Forecast: What to Expect this Weekend in the Pyrenees

New snowfall is coming in the Pyrenees, particularly on the Spanish side. On the other hand, not all stations will necessarily be in the same boat.
Some new snowfall is due shortly. According to the association Meteo Pyrenees, the deterioration expected this weekend will bring “good snowfall” above 1600m on the Spanish massifs: up to 50cm of fresh air at 2000m. In France, the Pyrénées-Orientales department should be very spoiled. The accumulation could reach “1m of snow at 1800m”. On the other hand, the thickness appears to be less between them Pyrénées-atlantiques and l’Ariège, “from 5 to 10cm to 1800m, except by overflowing on the border ridges”.
After the passage of this next disturbance, the snow level could become “excellent” on the Spanish massifs. Across the border, stations like Font-romeu will be able to gain even more thickness.
Elsewhere, it will be necessary to target border sectors for “good snow cover”. On the other hand, the weather should be mixed. At the station Ax-3-domains (Ariège), Weather France announcement of “overcast weather” and gusts of up to 60km/h this Saturday. Temperatures will remain negative at 2400 meters altitude. Sunday, Weather France forecast a few snow showers at altitude.
“The falls should not interfere with access to the station”
“There will be relatively little snow on Ariège this weekend”, confirms Philippe Durr, forecaster for the association Meteo Pyrenees, “5 to 10 cm at most. On the plateau de Bonascre, at 1400m altitude, there could be between 2 and 5 centimeters. And between 10 and 15 centimetres, at the level Saquet, at 2100m altitude. The snow will be heavier on the southern slopes and border ridges with Spain. Between 15 and 30 centimetres.”
Jacques Murat, marketing director for Ax-3-Domaines, communicates on a ski area 90% open : “We are able to offer a beautiful ski product. And the falls should not interfere with access to the station like last weekend. ”
