A majority, 50%, of the inhabitants of the historic Brittany is favourable to a Brittany Region with Loire-Atlantique.
Two associations, Dibab (at the origin of the votes in the communes on the reunification) and the Breizh civic Lab, are at the origin of this survey on the reunification, the return of the Loire-Atlantique within the historical Brittany, that to five departments. First lesson: 50% of respondents are in favour.
A figure that remains stable, with nuances from one department to another. It is in Loire-Atlantique that this desire for reunification is the most pronounced (53%). Then come the Côtes-d’Armor (53%) and Morbihan (50%). We go down a bit for Finistère (46%), and also for Ille-et-Vilaine (41%). No doubt this result for Ille-et-Vilaine is linked to the question of the choice of a future regional capital, Rennes or Nantes, in the case of Brittany with five departments. On the banks of the Vilaine, one obviously wants to remain the capital of a historic Brittany.
In more detail, this poll also distinguishes four groups of opinion on this topic of reunification. It is first the “pro-attachments” that are clearly expressed at 31% in favour of reunification. There are also the “open” which includes 19% of respondents. Clearly, they live with the current Brittany four departments but still say they are favourable to reunification. Hence this 50% majority in favour of a Brittany with five departments. As for “anti-attachments”, they are 28%. And there is still a fourth category: “indifferent and without opinion” which are 22%.
This TMO survey was conducted from July 3 to 5 among 1,683 people aged 18 and over living in administrative Brittany (842) and Loire-Atlantique (841)
