The maritime gendarmerie of Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais) has recovered on board a drifting boat 19 migrants Wednesday 5th June, 2019.

The rescue operation took place early in the night. At around 2:15 am, the Channel and North Sea maritime prefecture receive an alert from the Gris-Nez Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue (CROSS). A migrant boat 5 nautical miles (9 km) north of Calais is heading towards the French coast.

The CROSS sends a star of the Boulogne-sur-Mer maritime gendarmerie and the National Society of Sea Rescue (SNSM) of Calais.

In mild hypothermia
Two ferries departing from the port of Dunkirk allowed the boat to be relocated. Once on the scene, the gendarmes found on board the small boat 19 migrants, including a woman. Some of them were in mild hypothermia .
The star of the Maritime Gendarmerie noticed the boat to Calais. Around 7 am, the people were taken care of by firefighters and the UAS. The border police then intervened around 8:00.
For several months, assistance operations have multiplied in this maritime zone. The prefect was keen to warn migrants considering crossing the Channel, “one of the busiest areas in the world, and therefore dangerous for human life.”
