The International Cycling Union (UCI) announced Monday that it has cleared Chris Froome by closing the procedure concerning the abnormal doping control suffered in September 2017 on the Vuelta by the British rider. Based on the findings of the World Anti-Doping Agency, which admitted on 28 June that this excessive rate of salbutamol was not a positive test, the UCI “decided to close the procedure” against Chris Froome.
While all eyes were on the Froome affair after the announcement of an abnormal result of the British runner at salbutamol following a doping control, last September, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) declared Christopher Froome’s results as abnormal caused by the unauthorized use of doping products.His presence on the Tour de France was strongly criticized by Bernard Hinault (five-time winner of the tour).

On its official website, the UCI has stated that anti-doping procedures involving Froome are now closed. The Union knows that this decision will revive the debates, but because of the doubts that remain about the scientific results, the end of the procedure was inevitable. In addition, she wants to reassure cycling fans that the decision is motivated by WADA’s expert opinion and after a full assessment of all the facts.
Team Sky today welcomed the UCI’s decision to dismiss the case against Chris Froome. Chris Froome said: “I am very happy that the UCI has exonerated me. Although this decision is obviously important for me and the team, it is also an important moment for cycling. “
