More than 1300 people gathered Sunday morning for confirmation of 145 adults. Mgr. James, the Bishop of Nantes, presided over the celebration.
Every year at Pentecost, adults can celebrate their confirmation. Pentecost commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit fifty days after Easter to the apostles of Jesus of Nazareth. Fifty confirmed in the morning had celebrated their Baptism and the Eucharist at Easter. Others were baptized child and wanted to confirm their faith.
Since an appeal by the Church in 2009, “the number of confirmation candidates is 120 to 150 per year” , explains Cécile Eon, Director of Diocesan Service catechumenate.
Women are more likely to celebrate their confirmation, “about 2/3 were women,” informed the diocese of Loire-Atlantique. The Youngest confirmed were 13 years old and the oldest was 72 years. The average age of around 35 years. Catholics came from the department.
