Gendarmes on the Cote d'Azur are reporting an upsurge in the number of migrants

The Gendarmes conducted thirty arrests in a few hours …

The gendarmes at menton, are currently recording “an upsurge of migration flows”. Thirty migrants have been arrested, for one day last Friday and the following night, said an official of the Gendarmerie company of Menton.  The area that they cover is the eastern Alpes-Maritimes.

On the Eritrean origin, most migrants arrested were in the Roya Valley, including Breil-sur-Roya and Sospel. This axis connecting the two countries through the tunnel of Tenda, by road and by rail.

A Sri Lankan smuggler placed in custody

These migrants were handed over by the gendarmerie to the border services of Menton for readmission into Italy.  Six others were arrested by the sea, in Eze-sur-Mer, near Nice, in the company of a smuggler of Sri Lanka nationality who was taken into custody.

“In recent weeks we have effected more arrests of people in an irregular situation” has confirmed the Gendarmerie of Menton.
