Belgian cycling legend Eddy Merckx was admitted to the emergency department on Sunday 13th October 2019 after a head injury due to a bicycle crash.
Eddy Merckx, Belgian cycling legend, was admitted Sunday 13th October 2019 to the emergency department of the Dendermonde, wounded in the head following a fall by bike, reported Monday morning the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.
The hospital in the north of the country did not want to “confirm or deny” the information, but Stéphane Thirion, the friend and biographer of the five-time winner of the Tour de France, told AFP in the evening that Eddy Merckx was “out of intensive care.”
According to Het Nieuwsblad, the 74-year-old former champion, who fell on Sunday during a trip with friends, caused him a “serious head injury”.
He was to undergo Monday additional exams, according to the same source.
