No hat trick
While the Blues could legitimately dream of a hat-trick, it is finally the youngest and the one who was least expected who came out the best.
Julia Pereira de Sousa, however, only got the 18th time of the first run and had to play a second qualifying run to reach the quarter-finals before negotiating a perfect quarter and semi-final.
The other French contender in the final, Chloé Trespeuch, bronze medalist in Sochi and vice-world champion, finished fifth after falling a few inches from the finish line.
The other two French girls, Charlotte Bankes and Nelly Moenne-Loccoz, had been eliminated in the semifinals.
