Cabaret time in Sion les Mines

Local News

In my village, Sion-Les-Mines, the school parents association arrange a cabaret for five nights and one afternoon every March to raise money to send the ten and eleven year olds at our school on a two week skiing trip and to donate money to various charities. The events is very popular with many people travelling as far as 50km away. There are about 250 guests per night all being served a four course meal with wine during the performance with the last performance being on a Sunday afternoon so that all the children can attend.

Last year my wife took part for the first time, and having enjoyed herself has decided to participate in this years event. This year she is taking part in more parts of the show which include the opening dance which they are recreating Riverdance, The Breton Dance, a Modern dance and the Choral singing which is about twenty five people singing a traditional French song, this year about the sea. General rehearsals have been underway for some time now and the dress rehersal is on this Wednesday with the Opening Night on Friday. The Village hall, is starting to take shape as a Concert Hall, with sound systems, lighting and props all in place ready for the first show.

It is at events like this, that you feel part of the village and build friendships and is important if you want to feel part of the community.
