ENTERTAINMENT: Disney Studios confirmed Lizzie McGuire won’t get a reboot, soon after the show’s lead actress Hilary Duff
Sad news for Lizzie McGuire fans: the cult series will ultimately not be back on Disney +. It was Hilary Duff herself who announced her disappointment on Instagram, posting a long press release in which she revealed both her grief, but also her joy at having been able to play the character. She also clarified that she wanted to play a believable adult Lizzie McGuire. A priori, Disney did not have the same definition of credible.
“I was so honoured to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She had such a lasting impact for so many people, me included. Seeing the loyalty and love the fans have for him means so much to me. Despite all the efforts and discussions that have taken place to try and get the reboot to work, it’s not going to happen. I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and genuine to what Lizzie would be today. That’s what the character deserves, ”revealed the actress.
Different creatives with Disney
The project had already suffered a hell of a blow last January, when the creator of the original series, Terri Minsky, left the ship because of various creatives with Disney.
However, there is a glimmer of hope. Indeed, the press release published by the entertainment giant still leaves a door open for a possible return. “ Lizzy McGuire fans have high expectations for new stories. Until we are sure we can meet those expectations, we have decided to stop everything, and today we informed the cast representatives that the series we had planned will not happen, ”they explained. , as Variety reports.
It remains to be seen if Hilary Duff will be up for it or if Disney can do without the star of the series to revive her.
