By the end of 2018, police checks will no longer be reported by motorists on community applications such as Waze or Coyotte. Explanations.
Better than the lighthouse calls, there is Waze . But soon motorists will no longer be able to report the presence of police on the road in certain specific cases.
Other community applications, such as Coyote, are also affected by the government measure. The latter should come into effect by the end of 2018, explained the Interministerial Committee on Road Safety last January .
“The objective is to allow law enforcement agencies, at their request, to temporarily suspend the tracking systems of their alcohol and drug tests.”
Alcohol and narcotic drugs
According to the government, “29% of fatal accidents in 2016 were caused by drinking and driving and about 22% were related to drug use. Reporting the position of the police at the roadside seriously undermines the effectiveness of controls aimed at challenging the perpetrators of these behaviors particularly at risk but also that of operations to fight against crime in all its forms.
“This device has been discussed with operators of navigation services. The police will communicate to them the perimeter of the zones for which their localization will not be passed on.”
Speed checks can still be reported
Concretely, law enforcement can, when they wish, “put on” an invisibility cloak like the famous wizard Harry Potter, says radio RTL . Operators must therefore render inoperative alarms embedded in a given control area … under penalty of fine.
According to La Dépêche du Midi , “speed checks, as for them, can always be reported, being considered as having a good influence on the behavior of users”. On the other hand, the measure could concern bombings like abduction or abduction.
Already, as from 1st July, motorists will slow down by reducing their speed to 80 km/h on secondary roads. All departments are not treated the same though.
