Meteo France has placed 14 departments on Orange Alert

Fourteen departments were placed on orange alert for snow, ice, avalanches or floods Thursday 31st January. The snow episode starts around 4pm. Caution on the roads!

A new snow episode is expected in France this Thursday 31st January, 2019 from 4pm. Meteo France has placed 14 departments on orange alert for snow,  ice,  avalanches or floods.

At first, Seine-Maritime, Eure, Somme, Pas-de-Calais, North, Yvelines, Val d’Oise and Oise . These eight departments of the north of France were placed in orange alert for snow and ice by Meteo France , Thursday 31st January, 2019.

At 4pm, the new Meteo France bulletin reports increased vigilance for the departments of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Corse-du-Sud, Isere and Savoie.

“On the Alps, there is a risk of avalanches becoming strong to very strong this night and tomorrow and heavy rains are expected tomorrow in the Mediterranean starting with Corsica, says the Météo France site at 4pm. “

Up to eight cm of snow

From 4 pm, a new snow disturbance is expected to arrive from the south. Snowfall and / or ice, in significant proportions for the region, are expected.

“This disruption will be active and will move rapidly northward overnight Thursday to Friday. It will lay a layer of fresh snow of three to five cm, locally eight cm “, ensures Meteo France.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 km/h at the time of snowfall, may encourage some accumulation in the land.

Call for caution on the roads

Traffic conditions can quickly become very difficult on the entire network, Thursday 31st January in the night and Friday 1st January 2019, in the morning, “particularly in the forestry sector where falling trees can accentuate difficulties” , says Meteo France.

The risks of accidents are therefore increased. Be careful and vigilant if you have to move.
