Orne, Calvados and Manche are under a yellow warning for snow and ice during the night. Seine-Maritime prefecture triggered the alert “cold weather”.
Three departments under snow and ice warning
The cold settles in Normandy. In the night from Wednesday 8th to Thursday, February 9, 2017, the former Lower Normandy is under yellow alert for “snow and ice” from midnight to 9 am.
Thursday 9th February, temperatures will be lower, just 5 degrees on average in the day and the sky will be cloudy. Friday, it will be even lower at 3 degrees on average for the day with a breakthrough of the sun among the clouds. Snow is announced for the weekend throughout Normandy, adorned with a few showers in the Manche and Calvados.
Cold weather alert in Seine-Maritime
Two gyms will be temporarily made available to homeless people, in Le Havre and Rouen (Seine-Maritime). In the afternoon of Wednesday 8th February, the Seine-Maritime prefecture triggered the alert “cold,” for Thursday 9th February from 6pm until 8am on Monday 13th February.
This temporary device is activated by the prefect when the perceived temperature is between minus 10 degrees to zero.
Additional beds planned
In Rouen, the Graindor gym, located a rue des Charettes, will host homeless, while in Le Havre, the Dumont-Durville gym, at 79, rue Dumont d’Urville, will be open to all. Access is possible by calling 115 or visiting there.
At Colette Yver, rue Chanoine-Maubec in Rouen, it will continue to welcome families, women and children. In case of saturation of these sites, hotel spaces can be mobilized in Rouen, Le Havre, Dieppe and Fécamp Elbeuf, said the prefecture.
