La Rochelle: 2.3 Tonnes of Cannabis Discovered in a Truck, a Record Seizure

Customs officers discovered 2.3 tonnes of cannabis resin in a truck near La Rochelle.

On the night of Thursday 19th October, customs of La Rochelle found 2,362 kg of cannabis resin in a truck. Both drivers were indicted.

This is a record seizure for 2017. On the night of Thursday, October 19, 2017, the customs of La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime)intercepted a truck registered in Morocco, on the A10, within which were hidden 2362 kg of cannabis resin .

The value of the goods is estimated at over 17 million . Both drivers, from Morocco were handed over to the Judicial Police in La Rochelle, while the investigation was referred to the Court interregional specialized Rennes (JIRS).

A hiding place in the floor of the truck

A statement from the prosecutor of Rennes, Nicolas Jacquet, the arrest is detailed.

Both drivers have assured the authorities to go to Paris, vacuum, having delivered the goods in Spain. But inside the vehicle, the customs officers noticed “four wooden plates held together by screws.” This is enough to get their attention.

They disassemble one of these plates and discovered 73 cannabis resin bales .

Both drivers indicted




Saturday, October 21, in the evening, the two drivers have been indicted for importing narcotics by an organized group, acquire, transport and possession of drugs, involvement in a criminal conspiracy, possession and transportation of dangerous goods and importing contraband dangerous to public health. 

They were remanded in custody.
